The Dentist

By Ivy Lunt

I’ve always relished going to the dentist--

the cold rooms and bright white lights

the jab of the needle

and bitter taste of Novocain.

My teeth altered, repaired

but mouth still numb--

the hole I bore

into my cheek.

The latex gloves I

request as a prize

I don’t want stickers

or gumball machine

treasures, just the gloves,

thanks.
